Since its establishment in 1955, Corum has been renowned for its bold and creative approach to watchmaking. The company’s workshops have produced numerous avant-garde models, and the Bubble—first introduced in 2000—exemplifies this visionary spirit. Conceived under the leadership of Severin Wunderman, an American entrepreneur who acquired Corum, the Bubble took inspiration from the original Rolex Deep Sea watch of the 1960s. The Deep Sea’s domed crystal, designed to withstand the pressures of deep-water diving, served as the catalyst for the Bubble’s striking design, instantly recognizable for its pronounced domed sapphire crystal.

Often compared to a magnifying glass or a globe, this prominent dome creates an optical illusion that both enlarges the dial and imparts a sense of depth. Now emblematic of the Bubble collection, this crystal became a hallmark for watch enthusiasts seeking something unconventional. Lauded for its avant-garde and futuristic aesthetic, the Bubble broke with traditional horological conventions.

Between 2000 and 2007, Corum released the Bubble in various limited editions that drew inspiration from art, popular culture, and contemporary motifs. Designs included dials celebrating contemporary artists, comic book characters, skeleton themes, and other creative concepts. In 2015, the brand relaunched this iconic timepiece in an updated 47 mm diameter version, powered exclusively by an automatic calibre. Retaining its signature globe-like domed sapphire crystal, the Bubble remains among Corum’s most recognizable and daring models. Over time, it has continued to evolve while maintaining its core identity, positioning itself to remain a mainstay in Corum’s collection for many years to come.
